Disguised as a Voter Registration Site, an Elon Musk – America PAC Site Seems Designed to Vacuum Up Voter Data Instead

WASHINGTON, DC — Using social media, Elon Musk and his America PAC are promoting “VoteSafe.org” as a voter registration information site similar to nonpartisan site Vote.gov.  But its actual purpose may be to vacuum up voter data instead.

Reports about VoteSafe.org began surfacing in early September as America PAC began advertising on Facebook and Musk’s ‘X’ platform.  The page states, “We provide you with the information you need to vote with confidence. Sign up for election reminders and get help with voter registration and voting by mail,” UNQUOTE.

The site’s Privacy statement says it collects your personal information for communication and marketing purposes, and that it may share your data with business partners for “targeted marketing purposes.”  It does give users an opportunity to opt out.

Musk ran a data collection scheme in 2024, offering a $47 bounty to voters who referred unregistered citizens who later became registered voters.  Similar to VoteSafe.org, users willingly allowed their data to be shared.

Could Musk face consequences for the latest scheme?  It’s not likely.  President Trump has left the Federal Election Commission, tasked with policing super PACs,  with only two of six commissioners, and no quorum or rulemaking power. In the meantime, pro-voter groups have flooded social media with memes warning against use of Musk’s site.

We have more on Musk’s past schemes, and links to legitimate voter information sites at AmericanDemocracyMinute.org.   I’m Brian Beihl.
