Have Host Brian Beihl Speak to Your Group

As a former organizer, Brian is used to speaking and motivating groups to action! Because the American Democracy Minute covers both the state and national level, Brian can speak on most current Democracy issues, but also provide a big-picture look at, say, election denial, redistricting or small donor-funded elections.

Particular strengths:

Redistricting & Gerrymandering: Brian formed and led a team which analyzed gerrymandered maps in NH and created alternative fair maps. What are some of the tactics being employed to fight rigged maps?

How Did This Happen? A multi-decade plot has unfolded to restrict some citizens from voting, install an anti-voter judiciary, gerrymander state voting maps, dismantle the Voting Rights Act, develop and distribute anti-voter legislation to states, establish an anti-voter media, and tie the whole scheme into slick messaging package. And pro-Democracy forces didn’t realize it until it was too late.

Campaign Finance Reform: Citizens United, McCutcheon and other decisions allow special interests to shout over the voices of the average voter. How can voters regain power over their elected representatives?

Citizen-Funded Elections: One of the key tools to returning power to the voters is citizen-funded elections, including Democracy Dollars and matching fund systems. How do these systems work? How are they funded? Are they effective at getting politicians to work for the people?

Mail-In Voting: Anti-voter legislators have been restricting mail-in voting, claiming the potential for fraud. It’s nonsense. While fraud does happen, it’s so rare that it almost never impacts an outcome. From absentee, to voter ID, to provisional ballots, to ballot tabulators, to drop boxes, how are disingenuous mail-in voting arguments being used to suppress votes?
