November 1, 2026 3:00 pmWASHINGTON, DC — With our own federal government posturing to interfere with the 2026 midterms at the polls and in the courts, it’s important that voters understand their rights. A coalition of 300 nonpartisan pro-voter groups runs 866-Our-Vote, a website and hotline for voter information, including for citizens experiencing barriers to voting.
The U.S. Supreme Court’s Callais decision further undermined Voting Rights Act protections for Black, Hispanic, Native and other communities. The Trump Department of Justice quest to identify noncitizen voters also swept up many eligible voters, and so far, administration officials have refused to outright deny that federal agents will be posted at the polls.
The ACLU, Common Cause, League of Women Voters, Mi Familia Vota, the Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and the Declaration for American Democracy combined forces with hundreds of other pro-democracy organizations to support 866-Our-Vote and 866OurVote.org. It provides the where, when and how for voters, but also what to do if they’ve been blocked from voting or discriminated against.
The ACLU also has a related Know Your Rights guide which outlines ways to protect your rights to register and vote under federal law, and includes specific information for disabled voters, limited English voters, and what to do in case of intimidation.
We’ve linked to 866OurVote and more at AmericanDemocracyMinute.org. I’m Brian Beihl.
