September 23, 2026 12:37 pmWASHINGTON, DC — As anticipated, an appeal of an 8th Circuit ruling reviving Missouri’s gerrymandered 2025 congressional maps has reached the U.S. Supreme Court. Back in Missouri, Secretary of State Denny Hoskins faces three new lawsuits over his behavior in the lead up to the case.
People Not Politicians Missouri, organizers of the citizen ballot initiative to roll back gerrymandered 2025 maps, filed suit September 22nd at the U.S. Supreme Court. Election officials have already shifted back to the 2022 maps, and with time short, it’s likely the 8th Circuit’s decision will be blocked.
Back in Missouri, there are now three lawsuits involving the actions of Secretary Hoskins and his office. The Missouri Independent reports that a 1945 state law stipulates QUOTE “The secretary of state must pay between $100 and $500 to an aggrieved person if the officeholder “neglect[s] or refuse[s] to perform any of the duties enjoined on him by law.”
One suit seeks $500 dollars each for 162,000 petition signers affected by Hoskins’ actions of slow-walking and ultimately rejecting the proposed ballot initiative, later reversed by the state supreme court. Another suit seeks $500 dollars per primary voter who had to use the 2025 maps as a result, potentially hundreds of thousands of voters. A third suit alleges illegal activity in the Secretary of State’s office.
