November 5, 2026 12:51 pmWASHINGTON, DC — After months of speculation, there were no reports during the 2026 midterms of armed federal agents at the polls, seizure of ballots or election machines, and no presidential emergency declaration. And from the turnout numbers, voters largely ignored the ambiguous messaging from the Trump administration and defiantly cast ballots.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin made one last threat November 3rd, saying in a post on X, “If you vote illegally in this country, and you are NOT eligible to vote, DHS will find you, hunt you down, and you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” UNQUOTE.
The Department of Justice threatened election officials in all 50 states with prosecution should they allow a noncitizen to cast a ballot. ProPublica reports that DOJ election monitors quizzed poll workers in Michigan, Wyoming and New Mexico as to their training and procedures.
According to the University of Washington’s Center for an Informed Public, other reported issues were routine, including power failures in Wayne County, MI, a 20-minute technical glitch in Broward County, FL, and malfunctioning scanners in Westchester County, NY.
Voters were not deterred. In Minnesota, where widespread ICE actions terrorized local communities in 2025, Minnesota’s Secretary of State reports a record midterm turnout of 2.8 million voters.
