The American Democracy Minute Radio News Report & Podcast for July 10, 2026

U.S. Senator, current Alabama gubernatorial candidate, and ‘election integrity’ champion, Tommy Tuberville, faces a civil suit on whether his residency meets the state constitution’s requirements to run for governor. Now, new documents suggest he may have voted in Florida in 2018.
Unlike a U.S. Senator, the state constitution requires candidates for governor must be, QUOTE, “resident citizens of this state at least seven years before the date of their election.” Two Alabama residents filed a civil suit June 16th claiming that Tuberville has not met that requirement.
Tuberville currently claims his permanent residence as an Auburn, Alabama home. His former GOP primary opponent, Ken McFeeters, alleges Tuberville lived most of his time prior to 2019 in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. Tax records appear to show Tuberville became an Alabama resident again August 1, 2018, but recent reports suggest Tuberville and his wife may have voted illegally as Florida residents in the November 2018 election. The suit will likely include document discovery and possibly testimony by Tuberville.
Tuberville has been a Senate champion for the SAVE America Act, attempting to stop alleged noncitizen voting.
A July 7th report by the Texas Tribune suggests Texas Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Ken Paxton may also have voted illegally due to residency issues. More on that in our next report. We’ve linked to local reporting at AmericanDemocracyMinute.org. I’m Brian Beihl.
