You’re listening to the American Democracy Minute, keeping YOUR government by and for the people.
We have updates for you on the election drama in Pennsylvania, including the undated mail-in ballot lawsuit, the Dr. Oz – David McCormick recount, and two NEW lawsuits which are challenging other mail-in ballots not counted because of minor issues.
As we’ve reported, a county election in Pennsylvania had 257 mail-in ballots which were properly signed and delivered on time, but not counted because the voter didn’t date the affidavit envelope. A federal court ordered them to be counted because the date was deemed to be immaterial, but the U.S. Supreme Court issued a temporary stay while the high court reviewed it.
This, while the Dr. Oz – David McCormick U.S. Senate race was being recounted and IT had 860 undated ballots. The race had a .07% margin between them, 922 votes. But this weekend, with the recount not yet finalized, David McCormick conceded the race, saying there was no path to victory.
Now there are two MORE lawsuits in Pennsylvania. Two counties allegedly rejected mail ballots which were mailed on time but didn’t get delivered by the U.S. Postal Service by the 8 pm deadline, or were on time but didn’t have the outer “secrecy” envelope. Affected voters are arguing that these defects, too, are immaterial, and their votes should have counted.
We’ll be watching these cases and will keep you informed. There’s more information on these stories and more at AmericanDemocracy Minute.org.
