The State of Louisiana’s new brief for a U.S. Supreme Court racial gerrymandering case now claims Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 is unconstitutional because it uses race-conscious redistricting. Their shifting argument may suggest the state thinks more justices are ready to strike down the VRA.

Pennsylvania Must Count Mail-In Ballots with Missing or Incorrect Dates, Says Federal Appeals Court, Protecting Thousands of Voters Each Election

A Federal appeals court panel ruled August 26th that Pennsylvania counties must count mail-in ballots with a missing or incorrect date. The decision could protect the vote of as many as 10,000 voters each election.

Federal Court Rules Against Louisiana for Racial Gerrymandering – Again – This Time for State Legislative Districts

A federal appeals court upheld a lower court ruling August 14th that Louisiana’s legislature violated the Voting Rights Act of 1965 when it racially gerrymandered state legislative districts, diluting the voting power of Black Louisiana voters.

Texas Legislature Blocked From Enacting Manipulated Congressional Redistricting Maps as 50 Democrats Flee the State and Possible Arrest

In protest of Congressional redistricting maps blatantly manipulated by the Texas Assembly to gerrymander five more GOP seats, more than 50 Democratic legislators fled the state to prevent a quorum and block the new maps.  Arrest warrants have now been issued for the Texas House Democrats who fled.
