The Fight for Missouri’s Congressional Maps Not Over as 8th Circuit Allows Gerrymandered 2025 Map, Tees Up 3nd U.S. Supreme Court Ruling

The fight over what Missouri congressional map will be used for the November election is apparently not over. The Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals made a decision opposite from the U.S. Supreme Court September 21st, and sets up a third high court case on the maps. Absentee ballots are already printed.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh September 8th refused the Missouri Secretary of State’s appeal of a state supreme court ruling. It allows a redistricting ballot measure to go forward and a fairer congressional map used in November. But it may not be over.

Lawyers labored over Labor Day weekend to submit responses to the U.S. Supreme Court, after a Federal district judge blocked two more parts of President Donald Trump’s USPS mail-in voting order. Briefs for an appeal to the high court are due September 8th.

In late June, a federal district court issued a temporary injunction preventing the U.S. Postal Service from implementing President Trump’s plan to have the USPS verify citizenship for mail-in voters. The injunction applied only to the 23 states which challenged Trump’s order, but August 11th, that injunction was expanded nationwide.

We’ve been reporting since last spring on attempts by the Trump administration to obtain state voter and personal data for the expanded SAVE Database. That effort included lawsuits against 30 states and DC for refusing. DOJ is 0-22 in those cases.
