The American Democracy Minute Radio News Report & Podcast for Feb. 12, 2026
Feb. 11th, a federal court unsealed the affidavit used to obtain the search warrant to seize Fulton County, Georgia’s 2020 ballots and election documents. The affidavit notes that “the FBI criminal investigation originated from a referral sent by Kurt Olsen, Presidentially appointed Director of Election Security and Integrity.” He was also a 2020 Trump campaign lawyer.
Olsen was hired as a “special government employee” last October to re-investigate Trump’s loss to Joe Biden. According to the January 6th Select Committee report, it was Olsen who drafted a memo on January 2nd, 2021, entitled “The Role of the Vice President in Receiving Votes from the Electoral College,” and he spoke with Trump three times on January 6th. Electronic and hand recounts conducted by the state in Fulton County found no suspicious activities and no substantive changes from the original results. But the affidavit alleges missing backup scans of ballots, inconsistent recount batch totals, ballots added after the fact, ballots scanned more than once, and absentee ballots which should have had fold marks but did not. Eleven witnesses were cited, some of them election officials who noted how unlikely it was the ballots could be manipulated due to the safeguards in place.
